Food Safety Training in Kelowna

Kelowna First Aid is one of the best training providers of FOODSAFE courses in British Columbia. In accordance with the British Columbia Center for Disease Control and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Labour Market Development, FOODSAFE training teaches students about the important of food safety training in Kelowna in order to prevent the spread of foodborne illnesses.

The burden of foodborne illnesses is a heavy one to carry, with deaths amounting to over 2 million annually – and that’s just for the diarrheal complications. Learning about food safety is an important part of managing food establishments. Restaurants and eateries are not the only ones required by law to have employees trained in FOODSAFE; even groceries and places where food is merely prepared should have members of the staff trained in food safety.

FOODSAFE: is it required?

The BC Public Health Act (Food Premises Regulation) does not require all employees of a food establishment to be trained in food safety. However, the act does require at least one member of the staff trained in FOODSAFE to be present during each shift at the establishment. So if you work in food service, there is a chance that your employer will ask you to take FOODSAFE training. Some establishments also require all of their employees to have FOODSAFE certification, so be prepared for that as well.
