A little information on enrollment

To make it easier for students to sign up for our training courses, the Windsor First Aid website has an application form available online. Queries can be sent through e-mail or over a telephone call; do contact us during regular business hours so we can get back to you quickly.

Contact details as well as information on course schedules and certification can be found on the Windsor First Aid website as well.

The big deal with food safety

Each year, there are more than 2 million deaths attributed to complications of diarrhea. Dehydration is a dangerous complication, particularly for very young and very old victims – especially people with very poor access to health care and clean drinking water. Foodborne illness is one of the prime culprits of dehydration, because the loss of fluids and electrolytes through vomiting and diarrhea is quite common among different FBIs.

Signs and symptoms of an FBI include nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and cramps. The symptoms become severe depending on the strain of the virus or bacteria ingested by the victim. While most of the conditions are self-limiting (lasts only three to four days), if your symptoms become severe or prolonged, seek medical help immediately.

Food safety is the number one preventive measure when it comes to foodborne illness. The entire food handling process has to be safe and sanitized to prevent unwanted microorganisms and substances from contaminating food. When food handlers do not wash their hands or sanitize kitchen utensils, there is a greater risk that bacteria ends up on the food being packaged and/or served.

Hand washing

Hand hygiene – that includes washing hands with water and soap, wearing gloves, and rubbing hands with sanitizer – is the most important skill food service workers should have. There is a correct way to perform hand washing, something most people – not just food handlers – forget. The World Health Organization actually specifies a series of steps for adequate hand washing.

Signing up for Food Safety Training in Windsor

Food safety training at Windsor First Aid can be taken in a regular classroom course or a self-study route. The regular classroom course runs for eight hours (typically) over one to two days. The self-study route is less common, but is perfect for students who don’t have time to attend classes regularly. In this route, students only need to buy the workbook and study at their own time. They sign up for a certification exam separately.
